On Tuesday 30th November, MEND’s community team in Yorkshire were invited to Leeds City College (Quarry Hill Campus) to deliver an awareness session on Islamophobia as part of the Islamophobia Awareness Month (IAM) campaign.
MEND’s Yorkshire and Humber Regional Manager delivered the causes and cures of Islamophobia presentation. The presentation aimed to educate staff at Leeds City College on Islamophobia, its manifestation within the UK and how the college can work together with their students and the local community to tackle the growing issue of Islamophobia.
The staff at Leeds City College were shocked and disgusted to see CCTV footages of Islamophobic attacks and were appalled at how such a thing can happen in society. The attendees made a plan to create safe spaces around Leeds City Centre for those feeling threatened and in danger.
MEND would like to thank Luminate Education Group and Leeds City College for supporting the IAM campaign.
