On Friday 26th November, MEND’s community team in Yorkshire were invited to the University of York to deliver a presentation on Islamophobia in support of the Islamophobia Awareness Month (IAM) campaign.
MEND’s Yorkshire and Humber Regional Manager delivered the causes and cures of Islamophobia presentation. The presentation aimed to raise awareness of Islamophobia to staff and students, and understand how it’s manifested within the UK and how it could be tackled.
The attendees were shocked at the lack of representation of the Muslim community within media and politics and agreed that there needs to be a better representation of the Muslim community in civic, social and political life.
The presentation was followed by a delicious three-course meal kindly arranged by MEND. The Islamic Society at the University of York thanked MEND and are already looking forward to inviting them for another event in the near future.
