On Monday 29th November, MEND Yorkshire organised a webinar highlighting the good and positive contributions of British Muslims, the bad experiences they face and the ugly reality that has come about with the rise of Islamophobia.

The event consisted of short speeches by Kaushar Tai, director of Aksaa, a management and training consultancy, Abrar Javid, a victim of Islamophobia and joint-director of Rotherham Muslim Community Forum and Shakoor Adalat, joint-director of Rotherham Muslim Community Forum.

Kaushar shared some statistics on the contributions made by the Muslim community to the UK. Did you know that there are over 13,000 Muslim-owned businesses just in London, creating more than 70,000 jobs.

Abrar shared his experience of being involved in the Rotherham 12 case, in which twelve Muslim men were arrested and accused of violent disorder after being forced to defend themselves when attacked by fascists and far-right individuals during a peaceful anti-racism march. He also shared incidents in which the Muslim community in Rotherham were being silenced.

If you missed out on the event, please keep an eye out on MEND’s social media as the event will be uploaded for viewing.
