We are pleased to announce that we will be supporting Islamophobia Awareness Month (IAM) this November, alongside Parliamentarians, Police Forces, Local Councils, Libraries, Churches, Synagogues, Mosques and by many ordinary members of the public, both Muslim and non-Muslim alike.
IAM highlights the menace of Islamophobia, demonstrates ways of tackling it, exposes common stereotypes and misconceptions about Muslims, and showcase the positive contributions of British Muslims in everyday public life.
Islamophobia is rising at an alarming pace in the UK. The stark facts are 1,264 Islamophobic hate crimes in London alone over a 12-month period. BBC studies show that Muslims are 3 times less likely to receive a job interview compared to a non-Muslim with equal qualifications. Studies from Childline & the NSPCC also show that Islamophobic and other racial and faith-based bullying has led to some children self-harming.
We will be supporting the month by:
- Social Media support – We will be tweeting our support for the month at #IAM2019 and @IslamophobiaAM
- Islamophobia Exhibition – This will be showcased at XXXXXXXX.
- Islamophobia event – We will be hosting this on XXXXX at YYYYY. Everyone is welcome to attend, listen to our keynote speaker and ask questions.
