Discussing Contemporary Islamophobia in the Classroom

November 16, 2023 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

A two-hour in-person workshop for UK Educators.

13:30-15:30 with light refreshments included.

During the workshop, we will consider:

Misinformation and disinformation, the history of Islamophobic tropes and how they have evolved to retain relevance in the present day.
How we consume information, how Islamophobia is spread online, and the consequences and impact of being exposed to Islamophobic content.
Ways to respond to prejudice and challenge Islamophobia.
New teaching strategies that help students interrogate texts, write and think critically, as well as discussing controversial issues respectfully.
Ways to facilitate respectful classroom discussions on Islamophobia, racism, antisemitism, and other forms of exclusion in a way that invites personal reflection and critical analysis.
The workshop is a great opportunity for you to develop your own subject knowledge whilst at the same time explore activities that will help strengthen your students’ personal development.

Thanks to the generosity of a donor, we are able to offer this workshop free of charge (for Educators only). We ask that you complete a short feedback form at the end of the session.

We will explore our resource ‘Discussing Contemporary Islamophobia in the Classroom’ – https://www.facinghistory.org/en-gb/resource-library/discussing-contemporary-islamophobia-classroom
