On Friday 19th November, as part of Islamophobia Awareness Month, Muslim Welfare House Sheffield invited MEND’s Yorkshire and Humber Regional Manager to deliver a presentation to it’s congregation on what Islamophobia looks like in the UK, the main causes behind the existence and rise of Islamophobia and what we can do as individuals and as a community to tackle Islamophobia and make it history.
The presentation also included a short video showing some of the Islamophobic attacks that have happened over the past couple of years. The audience were shocked to see the abuse that some of their fellow Muslims face on a regular basis.
One of the attendees also shared their lived experience of Islamophobia in which he was subject to verbal and physical abuse by some members of the community.
The audience appreciated the work being done by MEND to tackle Islamophobia and empower the British Muslim community. A huge thank you to Muslim Welfare House Sheffield for hosting the event and supporting the Islamophobia Awareness Month campaign.
